Philippine Participation at
FOODEX JAPAN 2025
The Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) continues its export journey with the FOODPhilippines delegation, this time to the 50th anniversary of FOODEX JAPAN, happening on March 11-14, 2025.
With a team that includes 15 food MSMEs, the country is confident in strengthening its market presence amidst thousands of major global brands and attendees from over 50 countries. The Philippine exhibitors represent veterans in export food manufacturing and distribution, together with up and coming food companies helping redefine traditional food for the global market.
Japan is a mecca of innovation across industries that places the highest quality standards in its products and services. When it comes to food, the country has mastered the preservation of culture and tradition while integrating the latest technology to elevate the cuisine and craft of its local regions and adapting international flavors to suit its ever-expanding global food culture. Banking on the trust that FOODEX JAPAN has built over the decades, CITEM is ensuring that Philippine-made food and local ingredients gain more credibility in producing world-class authentic and excellent products. This move also aligns with the universal goal of future-proofing food safety and security.
The signing of the Philippines-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (PJEPA) in September 2006 is the first bilateral free trade agreement between the two countries, which officially took effect on December 11, 2008. Since then, trade relations between Japan and the Philippines continue to prosper as more opportunities to introduce food, beverages, and ingredients take place.
The rich biodiversity and strategic geographical landscape of the Philippines create a bountiful feast of memorable tropical flavors, such as fresh banana, coconut, mango, pineapple, as well as unmatched fresh seafood, like tuna and unagi from the country’s generous seas. Moreover, many of the participating Philippine food showcase responsible production and trade practices, as clearly displayed by the use of traceable, whole fruits to make calamansi and coconut flower sap-based products, and single-origin cacao treats.
Philippine exhibitors will surely delight the Japanese and neighboring regional markets with food reimagined into versatile products that are not only authentic, but promote conscious and healthy food consumption. Aside from being a leading exporter of tuna to Japan, the Philippines brings to the table creative takes on local produce without compromising nutrition and taste. These include flavored all-natural banana and okra chips, and the supergrain adlai rice, among others.
The maturing population of Japan and the global focus on the evolving consumer taste toward more sustainable, healthier, and functional food and drinks are indeed driving more opportunities to the Philippines. Exhibitors from the country are able to prove their capabilities in delivering quality food and ingredients that offer excellence and ingenuity. These can be seen in the transformation of common food and ingredients into unique offerings that are authentic yet convenient. Philippine food at this year’s FOODEX JAPAN reflects these aspects and also promotes nutritional value without compromising flavors and consumer tastes.

From organically sourced and fresh food and drinks, ready-to-eat meals and snacks to local ingredients suitable for game-changing creations and popular global menus, the food showcase from the Philippines is sure to bring delight to any regional cuisine and occasion.
